Use a current professional photo for your profile and write a direct description of who you are and what you do. Make sure the photo is one that is in the realm of professional, no “cute” shots. Linkedin is not Facebook.
3) Give Brief But Complete Background Info
Over 60% of users use Linkedin to connect with old colleagues so be sure that your background information is complete.
4) URL Should be Yours
Make sure that your URL is customized for you. It makes it easier for people that are searching for you to find you.
5) Contact Information
Keep your profile public and make sure that your contact information is complete. Complete contact information and keeping your profile public helps the people that you want to find you find you! You should also link your Linkedin to your website or blog. This is a great way to get some almost free advertising under your belt and you also are giving people an opportunity to connect to your blog and/or website. It is an easy way to increase traffic to your site.
6) Become a Joiner
Find groups on Linkedin that you find interesting and join the groups. Don’t be afraid to ask for endorsements for your skills either and offer endorsements when appropriate. One of the quickest ways to really get your profile looked at is to communicate with other users.
Invite people to check out your profile and check out other people’s profiles. Keep your project involvement up to date. Be sure that you are active daily and make sure that you review groups on Linkedin the more proactive you are the better chance you have or your profile getting noticed and making those valuable business connections. Add and update articles that you have written or that were written about you. It adds to your credibility.
