Day 49 and 50

Back on the road and All PASSED Out !
Took my bike to the BMW garage in Brixen – at 8;30 a.m. in the morning and I have to say I was really impressed even though it had not been booked in they immediately agreed to work on it – starting at 12 p.m. that day – I was happy to wait – .
They were very professional and very thorough and this guy Nicoletta, see his photo below was a real hero- I stood by him for 2 1/2 hours while he worked on the bike fixed the electrical problem thoroughly checked it took it for a test ride and found another quite major problem that we haven’t realised causing the bike to fire on only two cylinders occasionally- he then went and fixed that –
Got back on the road by 230 p.m. And headed west want to get as far as I could before nightfall- took some of the back roads and did the Tonello Pass- quite demanding ! As nightfall was approaching I hit the town of Edelo- decided to stay- road around found a cheap guesthouse booked in 
had a welcome shower and beer
good to be back on the bike once more- the lyrics from that song – Back on the Road Again- kept running through my mind.
towards Lake Como ( 55 Miles ) then turned north towards Switzerland took a back mountain road and did the – Splugen Pass –
Extremely demanding, !! Raining heavily- very narrow mountain roads – steep incline- hairpin switchbacks-
got to the top in torrential rain not really much to see- SHAME – it’s supposed to be lovely !
Then headed towards the St Bernadino pass- still raining, but not quite as bad- steep inclines and hairy bends- – it’s not so much the bends it’s the drivers coming in the opposite direction who don’t really pay attention especially when there is only room for one vehicle.
Nearly drop the bike, just managed to hold it- on a very steep bend.
Then as it was still middle of the afternoon I decided to go for the Gotthard pass- thank goodness the rain became lighter- as I climbed hundreds of feet through the rain on the clouds just as I came to the top of the pass the sun came through the rain stopped and it looked beautiful- stopped for coffee, cakes et cetera
🙂HOWEVER – Thats enough PASSES for one day
Then decided to look for accommodation, got onto booking.com and found a small pension/guesthouse in the village of Hospental -Relatively high in the mountains, nice-looking Alpine village- Total 198 miles and took 9 hours !
Thoughts on the Day
The Swiss certainly know how to build roads and their tunnels are superb – however they charge far too much for their coffee and beer-!!
It makes me long to be back in the Balkans.
Tomorrow my plan is to do the Furka Pass – yes that’s right FURKA
that’s a fantastic word. You could use that word all day long and get an immense amount of satisfaction from saying it 🙂 – I might have to adopt it as one of my new words,
