– Border crossings and mountains=
Took nearly 8 hours to do 168 miles. Going through the mountains on very small back roads.- Just the most incredible scenery- just when you think it can’t get any nicer – It Does !!
Arrived at the border in Kosovo looking to cross into Montenegro probably one of the easiest border crossings and quickest I have had on this journey so far.
Normally there are two crossings – the country you are leaving and then a couple of hundred meters later the country you are entering and they both have border agency police who check all your documents.. ( Normally !! )
However I got to the Kosovo side and the guy wouldn’t even let me stop just smiled and waved me on through.
200 m later at the Montenegro border I handed over my passport and bike documents. Knowing full well I did not have the correct insurance or green card and fully expecting to have to buy insurance. As I have done so many times before.
However not once did he ask me for insurance
( So I thought perhaps I’d better not mention it either !! 🙂 )
in fact he immediately started talking about football and wanted to know ( because I come from UK )
If I knew his cousin in Birmingham – Unfortunately I said I didn’t
Then he asked if I knew David Beckham – naturally, I said “OF COURSE ” – he’s always popping around for a coffee.
That seemed to cheer him up quite a bit and he just smiled and waved me on through the whole process took less than 10 minutes.
Eventually made my destination which is the town of Budva on the south coast. Stunning scenery as you come over the mountains and see the coast miles and miles down below you.
Staying in a hostel called Freedom Hostel which was given a good write up on booking.com.
Made to feel very welcome. Great location- right in the middle of the Old Town.
Budva itself is a bit like the Monte Carlo of Montenegro. Filled with tourists, multi-million pound yachts etc — 2 miles up the mountain I could get a large coffee for €.50 here in Budva it is €2.5 — I prefer it in the Mountains !!
