It is said that there are good coaches and there are successful coaches. And successful coaches are not necessarily the good ones, but they are good at making themselves known (Gerard O’Donovan – CEO of Noble Manhattan). But how can a good coach be a successful one? There are 3 must do in order to become one. Without these 3, a good coach could remain invisible.
Develop
Self-development is first and foremost a key to stay a good coach. Your job is not done with just one training. You need to constantly develop your knowledge and skills. You need to stay in touch with the industry trends. This means participating to diverse trainings and courses, networking with fellow coaches, reading and constant practicing. And this is not all. Because a good coach means that you will be able to detach from your own judgments and worries during a session, you need to make sure you clear your mind and connect with your inner values and needs. In this respect, self-development is more than being a life-long student. It also means taking a break to meditate or journal. It means developing nourishing relationships. And even keeping up with a hobby.
Build
You first build your knowledge base through development. However, this does not assure you the success you want. There are over 53000 coaches world-wide, according the the ICF Global Coaching Study from 2016. This is the reason you need to stand out. Therefore, the second must for a successful coach is to build a business. Building implies also websites, social media platform and network. Your daily goals should put brick after brick until you get the cathedral done.
Administer
And we got to the least pleasant part. In case you don’t yet have the means to employ someone to work that out for you – you must do it yourself. And administer here implies self-management, time-management and secretarial tasks. You have a business now, that you want to grow and make it thrive. Beside the content calendar for your online presence, you need to keep a careful eye on your meeting. In addition, you have to take a look to your book-keeping. And in the end, a successful coach is the one who is able to earn a profit from this.
The secret must for success
Develop, build and administer – if you are making sure to complete those three, you will most probably become a top coach. However, there is one secret ingredient that will ensure your personal fulfillment while doing all those tasks. Because being a coach is not always easy and fun with all the administrative duties and the selling part, you should keep an eye on enjoying this process. In this way, you will make sure to never get a burn out. Also, you will stay positive no matter the blockages in your way.
