Left Sinj in Crotia- About eight a.m. temperature already 27°- took about two hours to get to Trieste nice ride up through the north of Croatia, through the mountains into Slovenia and then across the border into Italy- lovely views as you come over the mountain.
Checked into the small hotel I had previously booked on booking.com ( Right in the centre of town) then I spent the day exploring the city.
I don’t think I have ever seen a town with so many cafes.
The main Italian pastimes seem to be drinking coffee and smoking.
To be honest, how they ever conquered two-thirds of the known world And built one of the greatest empires is beyond me. !
Perhaps it’s the garlic? They do seem to eat a lot of it.
At least, I guess it keeps away the vampires- and if you don’t have to worry about fighting vampires then it makes conquering the world a little bit easier- perhaps that’s the Key to success, eat garlic and drink lots of coffee- 🙂?
Found an adventure shop, bought myself a tent, and sleeping roll, because tomorrow I intend to head back up into the mountains and spend at least a week in the Dolomites and the Alps doing some wild camping and exploring some of the high Alpine passes.
Regarding the hotel I’m staying in I found out why it was such a good price on booking.com.
When I walked out of the hotel I noticed a number of very attractive well-dressed ladies standing on the street corners- I realised they were not waiting for a bus! 🙂
Being an outgoing kind of guy I engaged a couple in conversation- interestingly none were Italian, all Romanian, Bulgarian, Albanian et cetera. Quite sad really !!!
Obviously, I told them if they were ever in the south of England they should pop along and visit.
I can’t wait to see my wife’s face if some of them actually do turn up at my door !! 🙂 🙂
