Motorbike Diaries –
Up early and had breakfast at the Geneva hostel which I have to say was a very good breakfast- impressed !
Then road 20 miles up the side of Lake Geneva to the small town of Nyon where I met a friend and colleague Barbara Tejada Roux-Levrat
for morning coffee.- See photo.
Then back on the road and headed towards Colmar in France about 220 miles-
the weather was completely different today, strong winds, persistent rain and cool temperatures about 20° all day.
Which, actually turned out to be quite nice, the wind was refreshing and the rain wasn’t cold- also I had waterproofs so never an issue.
I also remember what an old Sergeant Major of mine once told me

There is no such thing as bad weather, only – the wrong clothing !
For some reason for lines of an old song came into my mind and I just couldn’t get rid of them all day.-
I found myself singing these to myself in my helmet- ( which I think sounded quite good !! ) For most of the day
I can see clearly now the rain has gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
I can see clearly now the rain has gone
it’s going to be a bright bright sunshiny day
Thank goodness there are no psychologists reading this post or they would instantly classify me as- insane
Ja Ja dis man is clearly a lunatic, ve must kommit him now ( obviously it must be read in a German accent- they make the best psychologists – at least the evil ones according to Hollywood :0 😊 )
Got my old friend- booking.com to find me a small cheap hotel near the town of Colmer- got here about five p.m.-
Interesting crossing over from Switzerland into France-
the French roads are fantastic, quality roads, quiet, almost deserted, fast- 😊
Stopped on the way for some roadside lunch- see photograph – bread, butter, cheese, tomato, nectarine and banana and water-
what more could I need
you have no idea how grateful I was on my first coffee stop in France to pay 3 euros for a large mug of coffee instead of in Switzerland paying 7 euros for a thimbleful.
In fact to be honest I can’t believe I’m even grateful for paying 3 euros, even that is extortionate
Tomorrow, the plan is to head up towards Luxembourg and then over the next few days go up the French Belgian border areas and take in some of the First World War battle sites
like the Somme, Verdun, Passchendaele, Ypres etc-
