Author and life coach Dave Robson describes his formula for success.

Sometimes people look at me as if I’m crazy when I say I don’t believe in recessions, but I don’t care. You see, I’ve been around long enough to know that, just like boom times, recessions come and recessions go and if you want prosperity and success it’s no use relying on anything that any Government might do to try to fix it.

Much better to understand that this is actually a Darwinian moment, by which I mean that the people who will survive and prosper are not necessarily the fittest or the richest, but the ones who can and will adapt fast to new ways of doing things and, above all, seize new opportunities.

If you are prepared to be bold and imaginative and to risk taking a position of leadership into new cutting edge methods and ideas, any time, even a recession, can be a fantastic opportunity for you. Hard work alone is not enough. You have to reinvent yourself, or to be more accurate, develop a suitable new mindset, step up to a new level and be prepared to deliver nothing short of excellence.

Now here’s the secret ? if you do something you are passionate about, and if you go about it in the right way, you are far more likely to be successful. That’s because you can only excel at something you love doing, and there’s always a market for excellence. Simple! We already have too much mediocrity in our world and it’s a huge turn-off.

I believe every one of us is born with a talent, passion, vocation, calling or aptitude, a special gift we can offer to the world. And it need not be anything elaborate. But unfortunately many of the people I encounter on a daily basis don’t know what their gift is, or claim they don’t.
