Motorbike diaries Day 46 and 47 Broke down 😞

Back in the mountains at last
left Trieste early, on Friday  at 7 a.m it was already 28°- headed up north and eventually saw the Alps ( Dolomites ) what a welcome sight.
Spent the day riding through the eastern Dolomites up into Austria turned left, left again back into Italy- did a couple of the high mountain passes- coffee on the top in brilliant sunshine and temperatures – not too hot – incredible views life doesn’t get much better .
One thing I have noticed about the Italian drivers, the speed limit obviously isn’t a legal requirement ???   I suspect it’s more of a guideline or suggestion – At least judging by the way many of the drivers seem to behave.
Interestingly when I crossed over into Austria the quality of the roads deteriorated rapidly
back came the cracks in the road, uneven surfaces, potholes- for a moment I thought I was back in the Ukraine.
Today my garment satnav got quite confused and she took me in the wrong direction around one of the big mountains I ended up going 30 miles out of my way- so have to retrace my steps total 60 miles on mountain back roads took 2 and a  1/2 hours  !!
By six p.m. I really had had enough- had been in the saddle since 7am – Sore Bum- aching back, sweating profusely in the heat, smelling like a bag of seven-day-old kippers –
So I changed my plans and booked into a small hotel in the town of —— in the mountains.
( Camping can happen tomorrow )
I could tell that I didn’t smell too good as I walked up to the tiny reception- the lady wrinkled her nose and looked at me with a mixture of horror and disgust !!
When I asked if they had a room available I could see she desperately wanted to say no-  so, quick as a flash, I asked her, her name,  she said Violeta —  I said MY GOODNESS , that was my mother’s name  !!!!  –  That seemed to do the trick 🙂  She found me a room 🙂
After a LONG cold shower I went for a meal in a nearby restaurant – which turned out to be very interesting !
DAY 47
Today’s plan was to do
the Stelvio  pass and if time allows the Brenner pass.
However the universe had other plans for me-
after about three hours riding the heat became quite intense so I stopped at a service station for some coffee and water- and the bike would not restart !!
Had a warning message on my dash EWS !  –  Telephoned my BMW dealer in the UK who told me it was a problem with the electronic connection between my key and the ignition.- They said it had absolutely nothing to do with the heat  – Really !!
I waited for the bike to cool down and it started :)-
Five minutes later it stopped-  again I waited for it to cool down and it started-
this happened three times-
so I called the AA breakdown- they sent a recovery vehicle and took me to a local depo- and will now take the bike to a BMW dealership in Bolzano on Monday.
So I am stuck in the town of Brixen for two days-
thank goodness for insurance !!   The AA are paying for my hotel plus taxis – and will pay for all parts and labour if required- 🙂
